System Maintenance

What needs to be done?

What general maintenance is there? What if the panels get dirty? Like any electronic or mechanical system, your solar power system also requires some maintenance and servicing to ensure optimal performance and durability. But we also help with that.

Solar Panel Cleaning

Dust, leaves and grime from natural oils (tree sap and plants) will greatly reduce the performance of your solar panels.

Solar Panel Cleaning

Like You'd Do Your Windows

Although a solar system is relatively low maintenance, it is in your best interest to clean your panels from natural grime and debris to allow maximum absorption of sunlight and optimal generation of electricity. The surface of your panels is smooth, like a window, and you can clean them the same way and with the same care as you would your windows.

It is just important to consider the type of cleaning solution used, as the runoff from your panels will spill onto your roof and end up in your gutters. If your gutters lead to tanks utilised for household consumption or watering your vegetable garden, it is important to use a non-toxic, biodegradable, safe-for-human-consumption washing aid.

Rinse with Low Pressure
Usually, a quick rinse (especially during drier seasons when there is less rain to do this job naturally) is all you’ll need to deal with the layer of dust. Use a garden hose or low-pressure washer to rinse your panels. High pressure can scratch and damage the panel surface.

Wash with Soapy Water
For a more thorough clean (especially if your panels are exposed to tree sap or tougher grime), use a mild, safe soap to clean the panels by hand, Use a gentle mop or scrubber, and perform a wash as you would on your windows or car.

Check & Service
While you are up there, use the opportunity to check all fittings, connectors, and wiring.

Consider

Professional Help

Having your panels cleaned and serviced by professional solar installers, will ensure that the proper safety protocols are followed when climbing on your roof, as well as the correct treatment of your panels are exercised. Professionals will detect any damage, microcracks, and hotspots due to debris build-up, which an untrained eye might miss. Attending to the necessary maintenance proactively will give you the best return on this investment.

Inverter & Batteries

Maintenance & Servicing

Your inverter and power consumption are managed via an app on your phone. As an electrical unit, your inverter is generally maintenance-free. In the event of maintenance or repairs required, this should be professionally done by a qualified electrician – preferably with solar installation experience.

An annual service of your inverter and batteries is required to retain the manufacturer’s guarantee. This full inspection and service should be performed by your solar system installer.

We keep your solar system serviced

and well-maintained for optimal performance.

Your 10-year guarantee on the solar inverter and batteries are subject to an annual service.

Grid-Tied vs Off-Grid vs Hybrid

Eskom or no Eskom. That is the question. Being grid-tied isn't all that bad. That's why a hybrid solar power system is so ideal.
