Solar panels (often called photovoltaic or PV panels in other countries) are waterproof and are usually arranged in groups, flat on your roof. They generate electrons when exposed to light. These electrons flow through a circuit and produce direct current (DC) electricity, which is stored in batteries or gets directly converted to alternating current (AC), by an inverter, for household use.
